Garrett Kelley Erie
March 2, 1984 – September 20, 2025

Our beautiful son, brother, uncle, grandson, cousin, godson, and friend, Garrett Kelley Erie, returned to his Father in Heaven on September 20, 2025, where he was joyfully welcomed by loved ones who had gone before him.

Garrett was born on March 2, 1984, in Berkeley, California, arriving four months early and weighing just one pound and seven ounces. A true fighter from the very beginning, he spent his first four months in the neonatal intensive care unit — and that strength and determination carried him throughout his life.

Garrett was the kindest of souls and never spoke an ill word toward anyone. He was known for his quick wit, bright smile, contagious laugh, and playful sense of humor. Ever the jokester, he could light up a room with a funny remark or clever observation. He especially loved hearing about the weather — a simple pleasure that never failed to spark his curiosity.

Despite the challenges he faced living with cerebral palsy, Garrett approached life with joy and resilience. He loved playing soccer and baseball in the Challenger Division, where he found camaraderie and fun on the field. He enjoyed going to the movies, dining out (never missing a Taco Tuesday), listening to country music, and playing video games. Often, he would watch TV and listen to the radio at the same time — singing along as he rocked happily in his recliner. School and Easterseals were important parts of his life, where he would demonstrate independence awaiting the transportation that would take him there and bring him home again. Garrett also loved animals deeply and cared for many beloved pets over the years. Above all, he was a devoted friend to all — his gentle nature and loving heart touched everyone he met.

As his health declined over the past few years, Garrett continued to find joy in the simple things and remained surrounded by the love of family. During hospital stays, he was rarely alone — his parents sat faithfully by his side, watching TV together, sharing meals, and wrapping him in comfort and care.

Garrett’s capacity for love and forgiveness was boundless. Even after moments of frustration, he would gently ask, “Are you still mad at me?” and would be reassured that he was loved “all the colors of the rainbow.” His gentle spirit, patience, and resilience made being his parent the greatest privilege and joy.

Garrett is survived by his loving parents, Donna Brems Erie and Edward Erie; his loving brother, Gavin Erie, and sister-in-law, Taryn Erie; his adored niece, Eleanor Erie, and nephews, Oliver and Cameron Erie; as well as his aunt, Julie Schippers, and uncle, Rick Schippers.

A memorial service will be held at Douglas Family Mortuaries, 500 E Imperial Ave, El Segundo, California, 90245 on Thursday October 16, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Garrett will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery, 1847 14th Street, Santa Monica, California, 90404 on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM, surrounded by those who love him.

Garrett’s kindness, laughter, and loving presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We will carry his memory with us until we meet again and can see his sweet face and hold him once more.

Please keep Garrett in your hearts and prayers.
